Company ProfileRunning Brook Vineyard and Winery was founded in 1998 by Pedro Teixeira and Manual Morais out of a vision to produce top quality wines that will make New Englanders proud and satisfy their palates. Pedro Teixeira - Owner Dr. Teixeira graduated from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1987. Having spent most of his childhood in the Azores, Portugal and later California he caught the grape bug. This condition exacerbated when he moved to Rhode Island and met his patient, now partner, Manuel Morais. They visited many vineyards and wineries and decided to grow Vitis Vinifera grapes and produce premium wines in Southeastern New England.
Manuel Morais - Owner and Vineyard ManagerMr. Morais was born and raised in Azores, Portugal. One of his fondest memories as a child was going with his father to the vineyard. By the age of thirteen he began grafting for his father and soon the older viticulturists in town began to notice his talent for grafting. Two or three years later, everyone wanted Manuel to graft for them. Before long, he was grafting for the whole town. Grafting became quite natural for Mr. Morais. In 1975, Mr. Morais was one of the first in New England to start a vineyard. Recently he invented an idea that may revolutionize the vineyard industry in cool viticultural regions called "tall grafts". Today, Running Brook has established vinifera vineyards in both Westport and Dartmouth Massachusetts.
